Hello out there!
What is going to give you kick in 2024?
Today I posted very first video of one of my art sculptures I did this year. It´s one of the truly interactive and kinetic sculptures I made. Most of them are more compelling than I admitted to myself until now. It´s a prologue to what Galactic Fossils (as I call them) or Galactic Sculptures are about. When you get a chance to experience how some of them change shape…it is quiet mesmerizing and I wonder why it took me so long to get on with it. The ground idea has been on my mind since ver long time. I had an actuall solo art gallery exhibition 2 months ago. Why it took me so long to show my sculpture online?
When it comes to wording I have actually quiet some issues. It´s not just me no finding the right name for them off the gates. It all starts with the terms sculptor and sculpting. Many people out there struggle to recognize the difference between statue and sculpture. The substantial difference between statue and sculpture is of course in the process of their creation. Statue ist in most cases a metal mold cast of a positive model ussualy made of clay. Whereas sculpture is an object of art created by sculpting away (removing) material from a larger block of material like marble or stone. The second one is arguably more physically and mentaly challenging. For once it doesn´t forgive if you sculpt away too much material, secondly it is physicaly extremely demanding. Not to mention the stone you have been carving or sculpting on might get a crack in the process and all your already sculpted work is lost. There are no second chances. Both statue and sculpture sctually refer to very classical types of creation. Of course modern and contemporary art has brought many more types of three dimensional creative processes for diverse materials to take up a form of an object art. But what is sculpture for you?
I realized that I have once again waited for too long to show all my sculptures and my creative work in general. This has to change, there is so much to tell. My objects are neither statues or sculptures. There is a story to them and I have to find a way to tell it. Striving for perfection often causes creative block and that´s what happened here I guess. Most artists, emerging or established always want to have everything perfect. If that´s not the case, there are artists, painters or sculptors who don´t hesitate to destroy their work. So, my advice to myself and to everyone like minded for the coming year is: if there is something that drives you forward, if it´s your art or similar creative activity, you should talk about it, show the world, tell and show everyone around you! Keeping it in your treasure chest, waiting for the right moment when it´s really ready will only steal your time you might be missing later. “Unpacking” it and presenting it will most certainly give you a kick, even if there won´t be so much feedback coming as you hoped for. Don´t forget, talking to others about things you do and things you are interested in is inspiring as well, because it gives you occassion to sort your own thoughts about it.
Another way of showing your work might be posting it online. But social media do not favour all types of art or sculptures. It has become increasingly inefficient to post on social media. Many creators are reporting “Being buried” effect. I heard first time about it from Nick Loper on his podcast. It´s basically social media platform labeling your account as not prioritized for further reach. If you are just starting your creative initiatives that´s an epitaph to your further reach. I´ve been experimenting with Reddit, let´s see where´s that going to go. Anyone having any experience with subreddits?
