This art blog post is going to be a little unorthodox. After consulting with the artist, I have decided to publish an email he wrote to me in response to my request. I found it very compelling and thought it would be interesting to share an honest and direct message with you. In an age of constant self-promotion and profiling, it is refreshing to read something so openly genuine, free from exaggerated ambitions and egoism.

CONCEPT OF THE ART PROMOTION IN OUR GALLERY

Dear fans of the Hybrid Gallery Von Hauerland!

Hi, Peter. Hope you're doing well.

I did tattoo for a while but I never really got into it that much. Besides, most people I know (I'm not really a person of many acquaintances) aren't willing to get a tattoo of that type on their bodies. Most people look for a "finished" look in a tattoo, which I understand but it's not my style (although the times I have tattooed I've done it with utter respect towards the person and my form of art).

I think a very good description of my sketches is that I try to go for simple, clumsy and careless pieces but with lots of depth. Lately, I've been trying less straight forward "art" but always keeping the spirit of what I do: simple and (at least to me) emotionally deep, hopefully that transmits.

To give a little context, I'm from South America, I mostly draw but I've been thinking of oil or acrylic painting lately, so I'll give it a try soon. I've always done "art" on and off, and I'm very attracted to simple, careless and dark styles of art. The closest I've found to it is "ignorant style" mostly known in tattooing.

I mostly use simple materials, ballpen and paper, simple coloring pencils (at some times the cheapest I can find, in order for the piece to have the "carelessness" I look for), but as I told you before I'm starting to use other materials like acrylic or oil paint in canvases. The latter is mainly because I currently draw in small sketchbooks.

I have framed a few but I've never really sold anything. People who have "appreciated" my art are not that much, to be honest. Maybe I haven't found the right audience or they're too dark (?). Don't really know.

I'm not really a pro at commoditizing my art, although it would be fantastic for me because it seems to be the only activity I truly love. So I'm at full disposal of commoditizing my pieces although the idea of electronic sales (at least for now) seems quite attractive, but I don't really know how that works.

Being honest with you, it makes me quite joyful to know that I'm being considered to be on your platform, I feel flattered. And given that I'm an amateur artist, I haven't made the time to make a website. Will do, though.

Now, is there any way we could have a meeting? I'd like to have a conversation about all of this, I think it's a better channel of expression."
